　1944年、米カリフォルニア生まれ。14歳でギターを手にし、大学時代にボサノヴァに出会ったことが、その後の自身の音楽性を大きく変えることとなります。映画やミュージカルの音楽を手掛けたのち、1973年に『The Art Of Tea』でデビュー。このアルバムはトミー・リピューマのプロデュース、ニック・デカロのアレンジが話題を呼び、後にジャズ/ブラジル音楽を取り入れたAORの大名盤として愛されることとなります。翌年発表の「アントニオの唄」で、その名声を決定づけることに。洗練されたサウンドと囁くような独特のヴォーカル、そして子供の頃から文学を愛し、大学でも教職についていたという異色な経歴の持ち主でもあるフランクスの作品は、ウィットに富んだ詞でも注目を集めました。
　その後もマイペースに質の高い作品を生み出し、75歳となった現在でも第一線で活躍。まさにAOR界の生けるレジェンドと言えるでしょう。
　番組では、オリジナルアルバムとして発表された17枚を中心にお届けします。
